Occupational Health and Safety

The various State Health and Safety Acts have introduced statutory duties of care for employers, employees and others. Notwithstanding this, Zadro Constructions regards excellence in safety management to be a primary business objective and to this end has developed a formal Occupational Health, Safety and Rehabilitation (OHS&R) Policy and System framed with the objective of achieving a high level of pro-active OHS&R management throughout the company.

Based on the requirements of the Australian Standard AS4801 - Occupational Health and Safety Systems and the NSW Government Guidelines for OHS&R Management, our OHS&R System conforms.

Zadro Constructions OH&S management system meets the requirements of the NSW Government OHS Management System Guidelines 4th Edition June 2004 and has been accredited by the Department of Services, Technology and Administration.

Management at Project Level

OHS&R Management at the project level is detailed in project-specific Safety Plans. The Site Safety Plan provides the necessary framework, which ensures all personnel are working to clearly defined and measurable objectives consistent with the company’s legal obligations and OHS&R Policy.

Key areas covered by the plan would include but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Roles and responsibility
  • Legislative requirements
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Safe work procedures and instructions
  • Safety induction
  • Site safety rules
  • Safety inspection and testing
  • Internal and external auditing and reviews

Implementation of the project Safety Plan is assured through a combination of formal internal audit and management review at defined intervals.

A high level of OH&S performance requires commitment at all levels. In recognition of the important role that all participants play in maintaining a healthy and safe work environment, it is Zadro Constructions policy to encourage the establishment of workplace based (project) OH&S Committees made up of representatives from both management and subcontractors.
